Reimagined Wonders

Ben Wheeler, TX

Meet the Maker

Hi, I'm Linda Ayers. I create fun, funky jewelry from upcycled materials. My search for lightweight earrings and my love of mixed media techniques led me to create my first earrings from watercolor paper. But experimentation with mixed media evolved into using post-consumer paperboard packaging as well as upcycled tin and aluminum.

I'm inspired by the colors, patterns and textures in nature. Making jewelry from materials that are thrown away if not recycled reminds me to do what I can to be a good steward of our planet, as I hope it reminds everyone who wears it. It truly is statement jewelry!

How it’s Made

As a mixed-media artist, I look for ways to use everyday items in unusual and interesting ways. I love the texture and unique shapes of jewelry made from upcycled paperboard! Egg cartons, trays that cradle fresh produce, rough and rugged packaging material that needs a saw to cut through it. If it's made from paper and it has a discernable texture, you know I'll be looking for a way to use it in my creations. These raw materials can mimic stone or hammered metal depending on the finishing techniques. And the earrings I make from them are as light as the fluff of a dandelion. Painted and embellished with assorted mixed-media materials, all my jewelry is finished with a water-resistant coating making it suitable for everyday wear.

FAQs:

CUSTOM ORDERS: All jewelry is handmade by me and many pieces are one-of-a-kind. I am not accepting custom orders at this time, but with so many designs to choose from you'll feel like you placed a custom order. Read the How It’s Made section to learn more about my process.

JEWELRY CARE:

As with all jewelry, it's best to avoid contact with liquids, lotions, and aerosols like hairspray or sunscreen. Remove jewelry before sleeping. Tin pendants and other metals have a moisture and rust-resistant coating, but avoid immersing them in water or wearing them during strenuous exercise.

Paper earrings are extremely lightweight, so I suggest wearing silicone backs to keep from losing them (I include extra with your purchase). And remember to remove them before entering the water. They are water resistant, but not waterproof.

PATINA ON METAL: I often embellish my jewelry with silver-plated and copper wire. Copper and silver naturally darken, developing a patina over time. If you prefer a brighter look, a light touch with a silver polishing cloth will restore the luster.

NECKLACE CORDS: Many of my pendants are hung on rubber buna cord. If it gets 'bent out of shape' from being coiled in storage, the heat from a hair dryer should get it back in shape. To avoid having this happen, hang your pendant when not wearing it.
